Jurong Lake Gardens to be ‘A People’s Garden’
On Aug 17, the National Day Rally Speech has definitely sparked investor’s interests after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced ambitious plans installed for Jurong’s transformation in the future.
A new Science Centre, Jurong Lake Gardens (Chinese and Japanese Gardens merged with the Jurong Lake Park) as well as a possible terminus for Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail were a few of the major updates cited in his speech.
The first phase of Jurong Lake Gardens, a 70-hectare water body, will be ready by 2017. This was mentioned by Khaw Boon Wan, National Development Minister, in his blogpost on Monday, 18 August 2014. Most of the elements that are of heritage value at both the Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden will be kept but will be reinstated for the new Jurong Lake Gardens. The first phase to be completed in 2017 refers to the Jurong Lake Park. The execution of the rest of the plans will merge with the larger blueprint for Jurong Lake District.
The National Park (NPark) will engage community gardeners from all over Singapore to collectively create show gardens in Jurong Lake Gardens. They aim to transform the area into the biggest park thus far; one even greater than the current Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park up in the north. Emphasis on its artistic development have been vigorous, so as to complement the ‘Jewel’ (new Science Center) in the heart of Jurong Lake Gardens. The collaborative efforts combined with sophisticated architectural design will earn Jurong Lake Gardens the worthy title of ‘A People’s Garden’. The government is trying to generate new space and add in different new ideas so the Jurong Lake Gardens may turn out drastically altered from the present.
Rail lines expansion and Highways added
In the next two years, the MRT Rail North-South and East-West lines will be relooked to cater for the growing population in the west. The building of the Jurong Region Line by 2025 and Cross-Island Line by 2030 aims to address the traffic issues and ease congestions. The transport planning aspect has to integrate with the redevelopment of the estate in the Jurong Lake District. You cannot finish creating space and building more residential units without planning the transport portion simultaneously. Otherwise, the traffic issue will be chaotic.
Improved Connectivity with estates linked to park connector
Among other plans is the integration of additional residential housing in the district. The building of more cycling paths and park connectors will be considered. This will improve links among the residential estates and business nodes such as Tengah New Town, Teban Gardens and Pandan Gardens estates, JTC’s intended fusion of R&D and industrial township focused around NTU, Clean Tech Park, and Tengah and Bulim industrial estates. This plan will not only improve connectivity but residents can stroll, skate, cycle or walk their dogs. This will in turn promote healthy living.
Jewel of Jurong Lake Gardens: New Science Centre in 2020
The centre of Jurong Lake Gardens will be pinpointed by the new Science Center to allow integration with the living environment and spur opportunities for further development. As of now, the centre will be located near Chinese Garden MRT station and is expected to complete in 2020.
AYE may shift southwards
PM Lee added that there may be a need to shift the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) southwards to generate more road space in the long run.
High Speed Rail
The possibility of siting the high speed rail in Jurong Lake District is high. Talks with PM Najib regarding the high speed rail between KL and Singapore is still currently underway.
Living By The Lake Lifestyle?
Experts in the property field say that there will definitely be high demand for houses by the lake after the transformation of the whole of Jurong Lake District. One such new development that is immediately facing the lake is LakeVille condominium. LakeVille comes with full condominium facilities and has a range of units from 1 to 5-bedroom and Penthouses to cater to singles, couples and even families with 3 generations living under one roof. Amenities are conveniently located in the vicinity such as wet market and food centre, Lakeside MRT and Chinese Garden MRT stations, Jurong West Swimming Complex, Jurong West Stadium, future Science Centre and upcoming edutainment facilities near the Science Centre. Just an MRT stop away is the Jurong East MRT. There, one will find Shopping Malls and F&B to quell your thirst for one-stop retail therapy.
In years to come, Jurong will slowly but surely be an exciting gateway to Singapore.
