MRT Rail Network by 2021

MRT Rail Network: Thomson Line 30km long with 22 stations

MRT Rail NetworkMRT Rail Network

By 2021, the MRT rail network will consist of over 160 stations islandwide after the last and sixth instalment of the 30km Thomson Line. The Land Transport Authority stated that the expansion and introduction of new lines would serve to improve connectivity throughout the island and reduce travelling time for commuters.

Passengers will be able to transfer to any of the six lines given the interconnectivity of various interchange stations.

MRT Rail Network: Thomson Line with 6 interchange stations

Thomson Line will consist of 22 stations and will be connected to six interchange stations – Woodlands, Caldecott, Stevens, Orchard, Outram Park and Marina Bay. Also, it will be linked to the East-West and North-East line as well as the Downtown Line.

MRT Rail Network: Thomson Line to link to 42km Downtown Line (ready 2017)

Currently, the 42km Downtown Line is being built and is at its first phase of progress with 6 stations opened. All 34 stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2017 once it hits the final phase of completion.

Expansion projects such as the Tuas West Extension and North South Line Extension are also in the works concurrently. Additional 7.4km of rail road in the East-West Line will host four new stations while the North-South Line will be expanded by 1km with a new station in place.

With Thomson Line in place, passengers can expect shorter travelling time on our Singapore’s efficient MRT rail network. For instance when travelling from Sin Ming to Gardens by the Bay, one would only need to spend 40minutes via the new line, compared with 65 minutes via bus and train.

MRT Rail Network: Thomson Line to release in 3 phases from 2010 to 2021

Similar to the Downtown Line, Thomson Line will be released in three phases from 2010 to 2021 to facilitate the introduction of the new stations to an estimated 160,000 households that lie within 800m of the new line. One new private development to benefit from this new line is Thomson Three located along 18 Bright Hill Drive. Walk leisurely from the condominium to the MRT station in 3 minutes.

The MRT rail network will span more than 220km once the transformation is completed in 2021.
